My name is Chase Matteson and I am currently a senior at the University Missouri studying broadcast journalism with a sports emphasis. Plus, I am completing a business minor.
Before venturing into the depths of the cold (a.k.a Missouri), I spent my entire childhood in Dallas, Texas. In high school, I was involved in both sports and theatre which then spiraled into an interest in sports journalism and eventually lead me to the University of Missouri.
Before classes began my freshman year, I began working at KOMU 8 and dove head first into the sports department. It was from there where I began to develop as a journalist and even worked my way onto the air later my freshman year. Today, I anchor sports on Saturdays for the 10 p.m. broadcast. I also report for sports. In the Fall, I helped coordinate our Friday Night Fever High School football show where the station covers 14-18 games every Friday of the Fall football season. Another endeavor I have accomplished has been the “Tiger Kickoff Show,” the show is a web series with the Columbia Missourian and the newspapers’ Mizzou football beat writers. I interviewed them twice a week for the show as we discuss the current status of the Missouri Tigers.
I am a strong believer that journalism is more than just telling the news but rather it is the people who tell the story of news. And as a young journalist, I’m excited to do just that.
Thanks for checking out my site and following my journey!
